Coaching Pathway.

We support coaches at all levels of the coaching pathway – whether just starting out or wanting to progress to coach at national and international level.

There are entry-level courses to give you the skills and knowledge you need to start on your coaching career, right through to qualifications for the highest level.

We require all coaches to have a membership and go through the DBS process if you will be coming into contact with players aged 18 and under.

Activator Award

An introductory-level qualification designed to empower participants with the skills, drills and basic technical knowledge to deliver recreational basketball.
You will need to be under supervision as it is a supporting role.

Duration: 6 hours

Pre requisites: Actively involved in basketball, either player, parent, coach etc.

Minimum age: 14 years

Cost: £25

Level 1

The basic level if you’re starting out in basketball coaching. It’s great if you already have a club coach and you’re planning to work alongside them in a school or coaching environment.This qualification enables you to assist other coaches in delivering sessions.
You will need to be under supervision and it is a supporting role.

Duration: 2 days

Pre requisites: Actively involved in basketball, either player, parent, teacher etc

Minimum age: 16 years

Cost: £100

Level 2

A 4-day course providing candidates with all the knowledge they require to coach unsupervised at a local level.
It will give you the skills to prepare, deliver and review coaching sessions for mixed ability players.

Duration: 4 days

Pre requisites: Level 1 coach or actively involved in basketball, either player, parent, teacher etc

Minimum age: 16 years

Cost: £250

Level 3

This is for coaches who are going to lead coaching programmes in clubs and means you’ll be able to coach players of all levels.
This 5-day course gives you the skills to plan, analyse and revise annual coaching programmes and implement them into your club programme.
This qualification is required for coaching in the talent pathway.

Duration: 5 day course delivery, along with 3-6 months home study

Assessment: completed portfolio along with a minimum of 4 training and game assessments.

Pre requisites: Level 2 coaching qualification and coaching a team in national leagues for 2-3 seasons.

Minimum age: 18 years

Cost: £500 - £750

Level 4

For national and international team coaches. Enables you to design, implement and evaluate the processes and
outcomes of long-term, high level coaching programmes.

Pre requisites: Level 3 coaching qualification and coaching a team in national leagues for 2-3 seasons.

Minimum age: 18 years

In addition to passing the exams at each level, you’ll need to gain as much hand-on experience as possible to develop as a coach.
