On this page, you will find all you need to know about signing up to our online courses. Our Level 1 Referee, Level 1 Table Official and Introduction to Statistics courses are currently available, with our Level 2 Referee and Level 2 Table Official set to go live in the coming months.

Our online courses utilise the HiveLearning platform, which can be operated on a laptop, computer or smart device (phone or tablet).

Each member who signs up to a course will receive a 10% discount (valid for one purchase) on officiating products in our online shop. This will be made available once we have refined the products on our shop.

Level 1 Referee

 

Aimed at complete beginners who want a better knowledge of the game: whether an under-16 player just starting out in the officiating world; a parent; or a novice looking to get into the sport. This online course gives an insight into the basic mechanics of refereeing, violations and fouls.

Level 1 referees can officiate school games, youth local leagues and at recreational level.

You will need access to a laptop, computer or smart device to complete this course.

Expected duration: 4 hours

Pre-requisites: None

Recommended minimum age: 14 years

Cost: £40

Post online module requirements: Once the COVID-19 restrictions are eased, candidates will be invited to a number of 2-hour practical sessions. These sessions will be lead by one of our Referee Tutors at central locations around the country, where you will be coached through refereeing a game.

Level 1 Table Official

 

Provides an introduction for complete beginners to the game. This online course gives you an insight into the basic work of a timer and scorer.

Level 1 table officials can officiate at school games, youth local leagues and at recreational level.

You will need access to a laptop, computer or smart device, and the ability to print a document to complete this course.

Expected duration: 2 hours

Pre-requisite: None

Recommended minimum age: 14 years

Cost: £30

Online module requirements: You will be required to print a practice scoresheet template document and complete the first quarter of the practice game within the course. 

Introduction to Statistics

Provides an introduction to statistics and use of FIBA LiveStats software for recording statistics during games. This online course gives you an insight into statistics, why they are important, the various criteria and the use of FIBA LiveStats software.

Successful completion of this course will help prepare you to record statistics in Basketball England's NBL competitions. Practice in other games is strongly recommended before attempting NBL games.

You will need access to a laptop or computer to complete this course. It is strongly recommended that you download FIBA Live Stats version 7 (link below) prior to signing up to this course, to ensure your device can operate it (N.B. the software does not work on Apple devices).

Pre-requisite: Some basketball knowledge

Recommended minimum age: 14 years

Cost: £25

Online module requirements: You will be required to complete the first half of the practice game within the course and upload your Box Score to pass the course.
