Chiefs Special Olympics Basketball Team has been running for about 7 years and their training session take place every Wednesday at Presdales School in Ware. The club is run by Head Coach Jake Fisher who is 21 years old and 6ft 10, and use to play for Harlow Hawks. There are 2 Assistant Coaches Adam Rayment who is 18 years old and played for Harlow Hawks and Andrew Klipple, plus Tracey Fisher who helps run the club. There are 30 registered players from 16 to 46 years old, plus Development Team of about 12 players from ages 9 to 20 years old of all mixed abilities.
The players come from Cheshunt, Hoddesdon and Hertford and the club relays on fundraising to be able to run.
One of the players Dan took part in the Special Olympics in Los Angeles and met Michael Jordan and came home with a gold medal. Head Coach Jake Fisher coached the GB Team. The next Special Olympics takes place next year in Abu Dhabi and 7 players are being considered to play in the GB Team. 2 players Harry and Adam have been selected and have to pay £2500.00 to go and represent their country.
Harry has been sponsored to do the BE Level 1 Referee and table course. All Herts Premier Local League fines will be donated to Chiefs at the end of the season. Harlow Hawks Senior Men players will be visiting and taking part in Chiefs training session on 22.8.18. The team have been invited to a WBBL Oaklands Wolves home game, a Hemel Storm home game and a Harlow Hawks senior men's game. All three games will have a fundraising event and all the money raised will be given to the team.
