Britain Announce 12 for FIBA U18 Women European Championships

Twelve women from all three home nations have been selected to represent British Basketball at the FIBA U18 Women’s European Championships in Dublin.

Two Scots and one from Wales join the nine women from England to make up Vanessa Ellis’s squad for the Division B tournament, which begins on Friday August 4th.

Inverness’s Alix Henderson is one of four players with experience at FIBA U18 level, with fellow Scotland international Megan Jones – now at Leicester Riders – among them. Lancashire Spinners’ Milly Knowles is another but the most remarkable is that of Cardiff Archers guard Emily Stradling. 2017 will be her fourth year of U18 basketball, having made her Wales debut at the age of 14.

Two of Sevenoaks Suns’s WBBL squad last season – Flora Durgerian and Jade Blackburn – make their debuts at international level, while Holly Winterburn, Daniela Lozzi, Charlotte Ellmore and Shauna Harrison move up from England’s U16 team. Ipswich's Maya Price and Southwark's Megan Haines are also experiencing their first taste of basketball at this level.

Head coach Ellis is backed up by Assistant James Dawe, Performance Analyst Barney Blake, Physiotherapist Aaron Wharton, with Team Manager/Head of Delegation Sadie Mason MBE.

For the first time, every single game Britain plays at U16 and U18 level will be streamed live via British Basketball’s Facebook page. Great Britain U18 women’s opening Group D game is against Ukraine on Friday August 4th at 6.15pm BST.
