The draw for the various 2018 FIBA youth tournaments was concluded yesterday and it means six different Great Britain age group teams now know who they will face this summer.
There was a high level of anticipation for the under 20 and under 18 Men in particular, in the wake of their double success during 2017 when each side posted a stellar and memorable promotion to the top tier.
The under 18 men will be heading to Latvia to face some of the biggest nations in the men’s game when they match-up against Montenegro, 2017 bronze medallists Lithuania and reigning champions, Serbia. Meanwhile the under 20 men will go up against Montenegro, Lithuania and Turkey.
“We are excited that Great Britain will be participating in what promises to be another exciting summer of FIBA youth basketball,” stated CEO, Lisa Wainwright.
“It will not only be a thrill to see some of our age groups back in the top division, but every year we are able to see the development of our most talented youngsters across the board.
“This is also down to the work undertaken by our Home Nations England, Scotland and Wales.
“Playing in FIBA youth tournaments is a special experience for the players, coaches and staff who will all be working incredibly hard to make it a productive summer.
“We also hope that this is an important chapter for many of our players who can hopefully make the transition to our senior teams in the future.”
