Great Britain Name 12 for FIBA Under 20 European Championship

British Basketball has named its twelve players to represent Great Britain, at the FIBA U20 European Championship in Chemnitz, Germany, which begins this weekend.

Head Coach Marc Steutel (pictured, centre) has trimmed his training camp on the eve of their journey to Eastern Germany, fresh from two prep wins in Poland. Carl Wheatle and RJ Eytle-Rock survive from last year’s promotion squad.

Kayne Henry, Nelson Boachie-Yiadom, Caleb Fuller, Sesan Russell and Romario Spence make the move up from the U18 team, while Sean Nealon-Lino has another taste of international basketball after representing Scotland at the recent Commonwealth Games. Evan Walshe makes the cut after narrowly missing out twelve months ago.

Before competitive play begins, Britain will play one more prep game against hosts Germany on Wednesday in Chemnitz. Then on Saturday, they play Turkey in the first competitive game on Saturday, followed by Montenegro on Sunday and then Lithuania a week today.

Every competitive game for Great Britain’s junior teams – both men and women – will be available live via British Basketball’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

Head Coach Marc Steutel said, “We have a talented group of players who will be tested against the best young players in Europe but we have had a good training camp and we know these boys can perform at the highest level.”

British Basketball Performance Director Mark Clark said, “Good luck to our u20 men who have shown some good performances in preparation and I look forward to seeing what they can do in competition.”

“It’s also been great to see once again, the coaches of the senior men and all junior team groups spending time with each other and working together to ensure as good a programme as possible.”
