Manchester's Kizzy Spence-Mussington, 16, was awarded the maximum grant of £2,000 as part of charity We Love Manchester's Rising Stars Fund.
The England and GB international has been accepted onto a Diploma In Sporting Excellence (DiSE) Programme at Oaklands College, where she will also have the opportunity to play in the WEABL and WNBL for the upcoming season. The grant will help with the cost of attending college.
With all Great Britain activity on hold for this year due to Covid-19, Kizzy was one of the players recognised by GB for being in contention for a place at this summer's European Championships had they been allowed to go ahead.
She was also named as part of Basketball England's Talent Programme for U14/15 Girls 18 months ago.
"Thank you so much for contributing to my college funds," said Spence-Mussington, when showing her appreciation for the grant.
"The money they have given me will go towards the cost of my accommodation, kit and activities put on by the college to support my development as a player.
"This money will mean so much to me and my family because without the help I couldn’t attend an elite academy."
With the financial aid needed to support the next step of her basketball journey, the former Manchester Mystic can look forward to the season ahead and the opportunity to continue her development both on and off the court.
