National Game Conference 2018

Basketball England are hosting preseason clinics for coaches and officials that will run in conjunction with the BBL/WBBL/NBL Game Conference at the National Basketball Performance Centre and St Peters School, Manchester.

The officiating clinics will take place at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester from Friday 31 August to Sunday 2 September 2018, while the coaches clinics & NBL administrator engagement sessions will take place on Saturday 1 September 2018. This combined weekend of development opportunities has been put together to create the National Game Conference.

The Conference Awards Dinner will take place at 7:30pm on Saturday 1 September 2018 at the University of Manchester, where accommodation with also be provided for the event. The conference dinner will include the presentation of the Basketball England Volunteer Awards, recognising the vital work done by the countless volunteers across our Regions.

Part 1: All delegates to attend together

9:00am-12:00pm - Basketball England Updates

Competitions, Game Day, Regulations etc. (applicable to Club Administrators, Coaches & Officials)


Part 2: Delegates attend either the coach/officiating clinics or the NBL engagement session (aimed at club administrators)

Coach & Official Clinics

1:00pm-5:00pm - On-court and classroom sessions in both whole group and breakout groups (format to be determined by topic)


  • Game Management - Communication, verbal, none verbal
  • Rough Play, escalation, first illegal contact, off ball, screening
  • Unsportsmanlike
  • AOS - Fake/Flop - Landing Spot, etc.
  • RSBQ

  • NBL Coach on-court clinic
  • Soft Skills Speakers - Conflict Management, Concentration and managing distractions


NBL Engagement Session

12:45pm-1:30pm - NBL 2017-18 season

1:30pm-2:15pm - PR/Communication session & social media/ writing reports for NBL

2:15pm-2:30pm - Break

2:30pm-3:30pm - Krossover session & Live Streaming

3:30pm-4:00pm - The competitions moving forward & Competition Game Plans-Key events over the season

4:00pm-5:00pm - Open session to sit and discuss anything around competitions (Krossover, live streaming, social media, etc)
