The NBL Weekend Takeover for 1/2 December will see Northamptonshire Titans take the reins of the NBL Instagram story.

We caught up with Titans ' Imogene Williams of their takeover weekend, in our latest Player Spotlight feature.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

Name: Imogene Williams

Team: Northamptonshire Titans - Under 14 Girls (Captain), Under 16 Girls

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Imogene Williams, I am 13 years old, I am captain for the Titans' Under 14 Girls and I play up for the Under 16 Girls also. I have been playing basketball since I was four for Northamptonshire Titans, which was once called Northampton Nets, so it has always been my passion and will forever be my favourite sport.

What brought you to the NBL in the first place?

My Mum is the reason why I play in the NBL as she inspired me to play at the level that she did and with the love for the sport that she has.

What was your first impression of the NBL? How has that changed?

My first impression of the NBL was years ago when I used to watch my Mum play in the league with all her teammates and just enjoying the game; from then on I knew I wanted to be a part of something that great.

What was your first "bright spot" with your team?

My first “bright spot” with my team was when I first started in the NBL Under 14 Girls team when I was 10 years old. Even though I was the youngest, my team always made me feel included and encouraged me to be my best, and to become my best. We were always there to support our teammates.

What was your biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge I have faced during basketball was when I was not always thinking on the positive side, but once I began becoming more a part of the team and open-minded, I overcame that situation and now I can be better.

What changes have you noticed in yourself since joining the NBL?

I have noticed that since being in the NBL, and being a part of a team, I am much more encouraging and supportive, as I know that it is important to be there for your teammates.

What are you working on right now, what are your current goals?

Currently I am working on my finishing in tougher situations - I know that once I have perfected this, it will have a major positive impact on my game.  In the future I aim to have a wider skill range which will also help me to become a better player.

What is your favourite NBL memory?

My favourite NBL memory is whenever our team goes away on long journeys in the minibus as it is always chance for all of us to get to know each other better - to talk about anything and everything!

What advice would you give someone who is just getting started in basketball?

For anyone who has just started playing basketball, my advice to you is always stay positive and know that even when things are tough your teammates will be there for you, just like you will be there for your teammates.

What do you like to do outside of basketball?

Outside of basketball I really enjoy doing art as it is a way of relaxing and spreading my creativity. I also really enjoy playing the piano as I have always loved the instrument and I have been playing for over four years.
