U17 RDT - Saturday Recap

With 20 games in total, Saturday’s at a Regional Development Tournament (RDT) are always a busy affair. The U17s was no exception as the 5 court set up provided plenty of excellent play from youngsters looking to take their next steps along the Performance Pathway. Team performance is important, as are results, but ultimately those watching are keeping an eye out for individual potential as they try to assemble a squad for the U18 National Teams. There was no shortage of that on a great day for basketball.

With constant support from the sidelines, particularly for the northern sides at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester, a number of teams used that as a springboard to raise their game. For the girls, it was a good day for the North West, Yorkshire, South West and North East as all 4 sides remained unbeaten in their groups and will look to push on again tomorrow. North West’s boys also went 2-0, joined by London and the South East. West Midlands, East, South and East Midlands on the girls side, plus Yorkshire, East Midlands and North East on the boys side all struggled, but no doubt have enough talent at their disposal to play hard on Sunday.

With observers on hand to provide feedback on the performance of coaches, referees and table officials, the RDT’s continue to play a valuable role in developing the sport off the court as well as on it. Games are played with 8 minute quarters as opposed to the 5 minutes quarters used at U13 level, meaning the tournament provides everyone with a bit more of a realistic setting to showcase their ability.

After today’s results, we now have a clear picture of how the day will begin tomorrow. Depending on the results of the games at 10:00am for the girls and 11:30am for the boys, that will then decide the teams for other match ups later in the day. The early games Sunday are as follows:
