U17 RDT - Sunday Recap

A fantastic weekend of basketball was drawn to a close as the East region celebrated the title of U17 Boys Regional Development Tournament winners. They were joined in celebration by the North West who captured the girls’ crown, a well-deserved accolade after an impressive competition.

The day began with a variety of games, semi-finals for those lucky enough to have qualified, placement games to decide final standings for the rest. At 10:00am the girls got us underway as South West and North West both managed to book a place in the afternoon’s Final at the expense of South East and London respectively. On the boys’ side, West Midlands put together a well-rounded performance to defeat London, whilst East did the same to knock off the North West.

The standard of play was high throughout as it wasn’t just players that were still in with a chance of winning the tournament that were being watched. It was a chance for every player to put themselves in the shop window for selection and a lot took that opportunity with both hands.

The British Shooting Test also concluded Sunday with heats throughout the day before the Finals in the afternoon. In an ironic twist, West Midlands won the boys contest, and South West took home the girls title. As both sides wound up being on the wrong end of the score line in the tournament’s Finals, winning the test was clearly a bad omen!

The tournament remains first and foremost a selection tool for the U17 National Development Squads and the U18 National Teams. In order to get a realistic snapshot of the players on display, a competitive element is given to the weekend but results aren’t the main focus. After the weekend’s games, the final standings were as follows:
