A few months ago Basketball England set up a program called ‘Under 14 girls 3x3 National celebration event’. The program funded an under 14 girls 3x3 tournament in each of the 10 regions-South West, South East, South, London, East, East Midlands, West Midlands, North West, North East and Yorkshire. The finalists of each region’s tournament represented their region in the ‘Under 14 girls 3x3 National celebration event’ in Manchester. The tournament was for girls of all abilities and of school ages year 9 and below. The aim of the program was to raise the level of girl’s participation in basketball, from a young age.
East regions tournament took place all day on Saturday 19th May, at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre. The event was very well organized, thanks to Coach Dan Seaman, Carlos Potter and Angela Griffin. It also had a great atmosphere, as a DJ played music throughout the day. In addition, all the girls competed at a good level and demonstrated great sportsmanship. The day finished with a competitive final between Suffolk Sharks and Baddow Eagles. Both teams were awarded medals by the Mayor of Southend, Cllr Derek Jarvis and went on to represent the region at the ‘Under 14 girls 3x3 National celebration event’.
On Saturday 16th June, the ‘Under 14 girls 3x3 National celebration event’ took place at the National Basketball Performance Centre, Belle Vue, in Manchester. The event also had a great atmosphere as it had a DJ and players were given the opportunity to meet England Senior Women’s player, Georgia Jones. Furthermore, all the players tried their best and thoroughly respected each other. Suffolk Sharks and Baddow Eagles, didn’t come out victorious but honestly could not have represented our region in a better way.
This is just another example of the amazing events that Basketball England run for everyone. So, get involved!
