The Essex Rebels claimed back to back league victories as they secured an eight point win over the Newcastle Eagles on Saturday, despite the best efforts of Eagles captain Alison Gorrell, who scored a Championship record 40 points.
Gorrell had 30 of these points at the half, making 15 of her 29 shot attempts, including four threes, and the forward also provided twelve rebounds, five assists and three steals.
However, it was the Rebels who came away victorious, and were led by a great shooting display by captain Andrea Kohlhaas, who contributed with 28 points.
Also for the Rebels, Deangelique Waithe added a huge double-double, with 16 points and 15 rebounds, and Ashleigh Munns and Carla Bieg Salazar added 14 and 16 respectively.
The Eagles led the game through three quarters, however, the Rebels huge 35 point fourth quarter provided the difference.
Elsewhere, Caledonia Pride managed to complete a convincing 18 point victory away over the Durham Palatinates to give the side their first Championship win of the season.
Caledonia were led by a magnificent display from Pollyanna Storie who scored 19 points, and added nine rebounds and four steals.
Luisa Velazquez added 13 for Caledonia and Sian Phillips contributed with a double-double, with eleven points and ten rebounds.
It was a tough afternoon for Durham who shot just 32% from the field, but the positive for them was the performance from captain Kara Elderkin, who notched a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds.
Leicester Riders picked up a huge victory over the Oakland Wolves to continue their unbeaten start to the 2020/21 WBBL Championship campaign.
This makes it four from four for the East Midlands side, as they stay firmly on top of the table, as their captain Kate Oliver led by example with a full stat sheet of ten points, three rebounds, four assists and two blocks.
The Wolves had difficulty all game shooting, especially in the fourth as they added only seven points compared to the Riders 22.
Louise Rouse put in a strong display for the Wolves, with ten points and nine rebounds, but it wasn’t enough for the side to get off the mark for the campaign.
