Junior NBA League

We are really excited to announce our partnership with the NBA will continue in to the 2015-16 season on the Jr.NBA programme.

Following the success of the first Jr. NBA Basketball England League in London that concluded in January 2015, this year’s competition will now feature two leagues in London (one mixed league and one for girls only) and one mixed league in both Birmingham and Manchester.

It’s all about us working together to inspire and engage more young people to have a go and get involved in basketball. It’s about having fun with friends, improving and gaining a positive first experience of basketball so you can love it as much as the NBA and Basketball England do!

In the 2014-2015 season, Basketball England piloted the first ever Jr.NBA League in the world, with 30 selected schools from across London allocated their own NBA franchise via lottery draw. Schools were then branded by their NBA franchise and provided with their own personalised NBA t-shirts to play in. This format will be replicated across all 4 leagues this year.

Each school in their respective leagues will play eight regular season games, with 2 playoff rounds to determine who will go through to the exciting Jr.NBA Basketball England Final’s Event. Last year’s Finals Event was held at the University of East London Sports Dock and played ahead of the NBA's Global Games in London 2015, where NBA legend Dikimbe Mutumbo attended to watch the talent on display. The winners received 2 tickets each to watch Milwaukee Bucks vs New York Knicks at the O2 Arena in January 2015, but it didn't stop there! The winning team was presented with their trophy at half time of the Global Game in front of a sell-out O2 crowd! Everyone at Basketball England HQ wishes we had the chance to do that when we were at school!

Raising the excitement of the NBA, the league will again aim to promote shared NBA and Basketball England values of teamwork, leadership, fitness and healthy living through league games, a Jr. NBA youth clinic, and league championship events.
