Training for all levels of the game
We support coaches at all levels of the coaching pathway – whether just starting out or wanting to progress to coach at national and international level.
There are entry-level courses to give you the skills and knowledge you need to start on your coaching career, right through to qualifications for the highest level.
We require all coaches to have a membership and go through the DBS process if you will be coming into contact with players aged 18 and under.
Basketball England is working in partnership with Sport Structures to deliver approved Basketball England coaching courses that are accessible to the general public on demand. If a course isn’t currently available, coaches are encouraged to register their interest so we can notify them when new course opportunities arise.
Introduction to coaching
This course has been developed to provide learners with the confidence to deliver safe, fun and inclusive basketball sessions under the supervision of an independent coach. Previously, this was the Level 1 coaching award.
Level 2 Club Coach
This is the standard level of coaching qualification for all club coaches at local level. The award gives a general overview of all aspects of basketball, and a basic introduction to sports coaching.
Level 3 Coach
This qualification is designed to prepare aspiring coaches for employment as a basketball coach in paid or voluntary roles, potentially within the elite game.
This qualification is awarded by Basketball England and 1st4Sport qualifications. We work in partnership with Sport Structures as the exclusive 1st4Sport centre to coordinate all Level 3 Coaching courses.
The qualification is supported by the NSG for Basketball comprised of the National Governing Bodies (Basketball England, Basketball Wales and Basketball Scotland) as the trade association and employers for basketball.
