GB Men's roster confirmed for World Cup Qualifier against Italy
Great Britain Men’s head coach Marc Steutel has confirmed the 12-man roster for tomorrow night's FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifier against Italy in Newcastle (7.30pm).
The selected group blends international experience with emerging talent, as Coach Steutel’s side look to make a strong statement on home soil and secure their first-ever victory against one of Europe’s most established basketball nations.
London Lion Deane Williams, 29, will win his first cap in the North East, continuing a stellar season for the talented forward who has already won silverware with his club.
Josh Uduje also appears on the roster for his first competitive fixture, after the 23-year-old competed for GB in the preparatory friendly fixtures ahead of EuroBasket 2025 last summer.
Reflecting on the week’s preparation the team have had in Newcastle, and the roster he has selected for tomorrow’s fixture, Coach Steutel said:
“Camp has been very competitive, very high-spirited, the guys have brought an incredible level of energy, intent and attention to detail towards how we feel we can be successful in this window.
“We respect Italy, we understand that they have a lot of weapons, they’re very talented and have incredible history, so we know we have a big challenge, but our group takes pride in trying to elevate British basketball and putting together performances we can be proud of.
“I’m hopeful that all the work we’ve done this week can go and get us the outcome that we want on Friday.”
Limited tickets remain for Friday night’s clash against Italy at Newcastle’s Vertu Arena. The game is available to watch live on Courtside 1891 from 7.15pm.
