September's Safeguarding Awareness Week

Basketball England's Safeguarding Awareness Week will take place on the 15-19 September, and like last year, will highlight important safeguarding points for our clubs and members before the 2025/26 season begins.
What will we be covering and how can you get involved?
We are excited to announce that we have invited a speaker from West Mercia Police Exploitation and Vulnerability Unit to deliver a webinar on online safety in sport.
The online session will take place at 19:00 on the 15 September 2025 and is open to all.
This session is for anyone seeking further guidance on how to best safeguard children and adults online.
The following topics will be covered:
- Sharing good practice
- Guidance from Basketball England
- The rise of AI
- Sextortion
- Practice tips
- Risks associated with ‘Influencers’
- Who can help?
We want to hear from you
We know that great work is being done at club level to make sure basketball is a sport where everyone can participate in environments that keep them safe from harm.
From creative ideas to capturing the youth voice; creating warm welcomes to feedback opportunities for members, we want to hear about how your bringing safeguarding principles to life!
So share your examples of best practice with us, and help to inspire others in the game.
We will share content throughout our Safeguarding Awareness Week to showcase the great work being done and provide inspiration to other clubs.
If you are a Club Welfare Officer and see something shared across the week that you want to replicate yourself, reach out to the BE Safeguarding team and we will be able to support you.
Throughout the week, we will be sharing resources on social media use, safeguarding requirements for the 2025/26 season and some best practice tips, and a pre-season reminder of our shared responsibility when it comes to safeguarding.
