WNBL Division One Recap - Week 10 (30 November/1 December 2019)

With leaders Anglia Ruskin taking a weekend off, there was an opportunity for the likes of Solent, Reading and Ipswich to put some pressure on at the head of the standings. To find out how week 10 played out in D1W, here's our recap.

Game of the Week

Reading Rockets 71 - 61 Thames Valley Cavaliers

Reading grabbed sole possession of 4th place with a 71-61 win over Thames Valley on Sunday.

A 24-15 2nd quarter provided the Rockets with the cushion they needed to seal the W, though the Cavs would get the difference down to just four points in the final frame.

Sitota Gines Espinosa top scored for the hosts with 20 points, adding 10 rebounds for the double-double. Kelsi McNamara led the way for Thames Valley, dropping a game high 25 points in the loss, and Diana Voynova deserves recognition for her 22 rebound, 12 point performance.

Elsewhere in D1W

It wasn't all bad news for Thames Valley as they began their double header weekend with an 81-48 home win against Bristol Academy Flyers. The hosts started both halves brightly, winning the 1st quarter 32-18 and the 3rd 33-9, creating a more than adequate lead that they'd never relinquish. American Kelsi McNamara once again starred for the Cavs, scoring 29 points.

Ipswich made it three wins in a row with a comfortable 74-41 win against Loughborough Riders. After restricting the hosts to 20 first half points, multiple D1W Player of the Week winner Harriet Welham was able to pace the Ipswich offence with 24 points in reply.

Barking Abbey remained winless as Team Solent Kestrels went to London and left with both points, coming out on top 75-59Krisztina Velkey was the pick of the scorers for Solent as she finished with 22 points. Tamara Fournillier-Onadeko was the only BA player to make it to double digits, she had 13.
