Basketball England Volunteer Awards - nominations open

Basketball England is proud to announce the opening of nominations for the Annual Volunteer Awards for the 2019/20 season.

The Awards are now in their third year following the programme’s relaunch in 2018 and are designed to recognise the tireless efforts of the unsung heroes of our sport.

Nominations are now open for awards in 13 categories and winners will be chosen from across the 10 regions. The winners across the categories will then be shortlisted for the National Volunteer Awards which will be presented at the Awards Dinner at a date and location to be confirmed in due course. 

Previous winners include School of the Year Barking Abbey, who were recognised for their commitment to competitions across the sport, Children’s Coach of the Year Philip Hughes for giving up huge amounts of his time to develop young players in the south west and Young Volunteer of the Year Dylan Consterdine, who has become a role model for junior players and officials in the North West.

The 13 award categories open for nominations are:

  • YOUNG VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR (U21)
  • CHILDREN’S COACH OF THE YEAR
  • COACH OF THE YEAR
  • COMMUNITY CLUB OF THE YEAR
  • REFEREE OF THE YEAR
  • YOUNG OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR (U21)
  • TABLE OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR
  • STATISTICIAN OF THE YEAR
  • ALL GIRLS INSPIRING FEMALE OF THE YEAR
  • TEACHER OF THE YEAR
  • SCHOOL OF THE YEAR
  • MEDIA/PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR

“Basketball in England is reliant on the great volunteers working in our clubs, schools, colleges and universities across the country each day,” said David Butler, Delivery Director at Basketball England.

“The Basketball England volunteer awards is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of everyone in the game and to recognise some of those people who have gone above and beyond for basketball. We’re looking forward to reading all the nominations from across the regions!”

The closing date for nominations is Friday, March 6 at 6pm, following which the winners will be selected in partnership with the Regional Management Committee Chairs.
