Equality, Diversity and Inclusion: Have your say on what issues BE’s new committee tackles

Basketball England’s newly formed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) Committee has met for the first time – now we want BE members’ input to identify the key issues it should address.

The committee, which was sanctioned by the BE board in December, will help the organisation take a stronger approach to tackling discrimination and promoting fairness and respect.

It will support, advise and challenge the BE board as part of the philosophy that #TogetherWeAreBasketbALL.

Adopting an open, transparent approach so people in the game can have a say, we are asking the basketball family:

  • What areas and issues would you like to see us work on?
  • What should be the ED&I Committee’s priority?

ED&I Committee chair and BE board member Benny Bonsu said:

“I am really excited to see what this committee can achieve within basketball.

“Before our next meeting, we want to understand where we are currently at within regards to ED&I and therefore, we are reaching out to our community to understand what they would like to see from the ED&I Committee.”

BE Head of HR Antony Platt said:

“We believe transparency is important and want BE members to be able to influence the direction the Committee takes.

“We will collect responses generated and use them to help form a plan to tackle common issues during our next ED&I meeting at the start of December.

“We will look to share a plan after that meeting and want to be clear that members can and should hold us accountable to this plan.”
