WNBL1 Preview: Week 9 (27/28 November 2021) – live streams, stats and more

The last weekend of November sees four WNBL1 matches.

Tipping off Saturday’s fixtures is London Lions II v Reading Rockets, while Anglia Ruskin University face Thames Valley Cavaliers, Nottingham Trent visit Bristol Academy Flyers and, on Sunday, Solent Kestrels host Cardiff Met Archers.

Nottingham Trent University (0-7) vs Bristol Academy Flyers (2-5)

Winless Nottingham Trent host a Flyers team which has two wins from seven outings.

For the Bristolians it’s as simple as riding the high from last week’s dub and beating the worst performing team in the league.

But for Nottingham Trent, it’s a matter of taking the best bits of their last performance against fifth-placed Worcester Wolves (who they only lost to by seven points), maintaining their discipline on defence – they have the least total fouls in the league – and assisting Linsey Cleary, who has a 93-efficiency rating, and Lilly Annim, who is scoring 14.2 points per game, to achieve that win.

Elsewhere this weekend

In the M4 derby, London Lions II (1-6) host the Reading Rockets (1-4).

The Lions are on a poor run, losing their last four games, so they will be looking to break that duck against the Rockets, who have a recent win still fresh in their memory.

Fatmata Janneh is currently top of the average points pile, scoring 22.6 points per-game, but with the Rockets having a slightly quicker transition defence, the lion-hearted guard will have her work cut out.

Player of the Week Katrin Hulme will lead out seventh-placed Anglia Ruskin University (3-2) against third-placed Thames Valley Cavaliers (4-2).

Hulme is averaging 16.8 points and 14.3 rebounds per-game and will be channelling that energy to defeat the Cavs and cement ARU’s position in the playoff spots.

Not in league action, Loughborough Riders host CoLA Southwark Pride in the third round of the National Cup

Team Solent Kestrels (3-3) host Cardiff Met Archers (3-4) in Sunday’s only game. The Kestrels had a close loss to Anglia Ruskin last week but with Saffie Jarju and Molly Danielson making the Team of the Week for their standout performances, they will be confident in taking the Archers.

The Cardiff-based team will have to make the most of their fast transition offence and Denisa Molnar’s current shooting form to keep their opponents second guessing.
