WNBL1 Recap: Playoff Quarter-Finals (15/16 May 2021) - live streams, stats and more

The first round of the WNBL playoffs are now completed, with four teams moving on to next weekend's semi-finals.

Ipswich, CoLA, Loughborough and Nottingham are all still in with a chance of playoff glory as the four teams still standing in the 2020/21 competition.

We take a look at the games below, with each heading clickable for live stats, plus links to live stats and live streams at the bottom of the page.

#1 Ipswich 88-54 #8 Thames Valley Cavaliers

Top seeds Ipswich cruised into the final fours following a comfortable 88-54 victory over Thames Valley.

Player of the Year favourite Harriet Welham was the standout for the hosts, scoring 35 of their points as Dani Cazey (11pts) was the only other Ipswich player who made it to double digits on the score board.

After managing to stay in touch during the opening quarter, Thames Valley couldn't maintain that pace as a 31-11 second frame left the visitors in a hole they would never escape from.

Esther Little scored four points on just three shot attempts, but her 13 rebounds allowed the Suffolk side to control the glass and limit second chance opportunities.

Katherine Goldsby provided a spark for TVC, but her 13 point, 15 rebound double-double wouldn't be enough against the league champs.

Ipswich now move on to host Nottingham Trent next weekend, the only side to beat them at home during the regular season.

#2 CoLA Southwark Pride 68-45 #7 BA London Lions II

CoLA used another stingy defensive performance to see off local rival BA London Lions II 68-45.

Pride conceded less than 60 points per outing in the regular season but went a step further here, keeping the Lions under the half century mark as BA scored just six points in the final frame.

In the absence of Isi Ozzy-Momodu and with captain Simona Henshaw enduring an 0/15 shooting performance, Southwark were instead fronted by Emilie Black, who's 20 points led all scorers.

With the hosts turning up the heat on defence, the Lions coughed up 26 turnovers which were converted into 27 points, a big factor in a low-scoring contest.

Reigning WNBL Player of the Week Paula Puzule top scored for BA with 17, but it wasn't enough for the #7 seeds.

#3 Loughborough Riders 62-53 #6 Reading Rockets

Loughborough left it late to avoid a potential upset as they recorded a come-from-behind 62-53 victory over Reading.

The Rockets were sitting pretty as the fourth quarter began, leading 45-38 thanks in part to a strong performance from forward Gaila Comesana (19pts, 12reb).

The hosts wouldn't be denied however, storming back to take the final frame 24-8 and set up a trip to #2 seeds CoLA in the semi-finals.

Starlet Katie Januszewska once again showed her quality as she put together a 19 point, 13 rebound double-double. American Makana Stone came close to doing the same, finishing on 19 points and nine boards.

Reading will now have the off-season to wonder what might have been after going a disappointing 4/18 from the floor over the final 10 minutes.

#4 Team Solent Kestrels 68-74 #5 Nottingham Trent University

The only upset of the weekend belonged to Nottingham as they went to Solent and knocked off the #4 seeds 74-68.

NTU elected to roll with Schekinah Bimpa over Mady Burdett his weekend and the American forward rewarded the selection with a 20 point, 10 rebound double-double to lead her team in both categories.

After losing the opening quarter 22-17, NTU rallied to win both the second and third, building a 63-45 advantage going into the final frame.

That allowed the visitors to ease off a little down the stretch as Solent took the last 23-11 but couldn't alter the final outcome.

Bimpa was supported by Evi Dekker's 17 points, as Faye Endean (20pts) and Princess Adeogun (12pts, 7reb) both played well for Solent.
