Great Britain U16 & U18 squads named for pre-European Championship camps

Four groups of players have been invited to Great Britain camps ahead of this summer’s FIBA European Youth Championships.

The Championships will see more than 250 teams play across 16 tournaments, three age categories and three divisions - with GB competing in Division B of the U16 men’s, and U16 and U18 women’s competitions, and in the top division of the U18 men’s tournament.

The British Basketball Federation and home country basketball associations appointed coaches and staff last month

Before the final 12-player rosters are confirmed, four groups of players will attend orientation camps at the University of Essex (male) and Myerscough College (female) on 2 and 3 July.

Coaches will assess the invited players before selecting their Euro squads.

Sam Messam, Talent Programme and Pathway Manager, said:

"Everyone involved is really looking forward to the preparation phase, and ultimately to challenging to remain in Division A or pursue promotion to Division A. Through the GB Youth Performance Group, which is made up Basketball Scotland, Basketball Wales, Basketball England, and representatives from the British Basketball Federation, we have been able to put together a preparation programme for each team.

“It is going to be a very busy summer for our talented young players, but we are confident that all of the GB coaching and support staff will be there to support and guide them to success."
