A good read - how a bestseller is helping grow basketball in Hampshire

Yateley Silverbacks Basketball Club have announced a new sponsorship deal with an Amazon #1 bestselling book.

The Hampshire club recently announced the partnership with Amazon #1 bestselling business book I don’t work Fridays by Martin Norbury for the 2023/2024 season.

This is the fourth consecutive season that I don’t work Fridays has committed to helping Yateley Silverbacks both financially as well as with business and marketing support.

With nearly 200 members, 16 teams, and eight coaches, the sponsorship and support helps the club run over 14 hours of training every week, play more than 200 matches a season, provide match kit and more.

The investment will also help the club work with adults and youths in attaining their coaching badges and referee qualifications, and opens up opportunities for basketball tournaments and tours.

Pete Daines, Yateley Silverbacks Basketball club founder, chair, coach and player, said:

“Over the last four years, Yateley Silverbacks has expanded from seven to 16 teams, including two new U10s teams and strengthening all adult squads this season.

"We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Martin and Jacki of I don’t work Fridays once again, who have become integral to our club, and we can operate safe in the knowledge we can cover all the expenses that come with running an expanding club, as well as continue to invest in the future of our players, club, and community."

Martin Norbury, author of I don’t work Fridays added:

“We’re in the fortunate position to be able to support local clubs like Yateley Silverbacks, and four years on from our initial sponsorship, it’s wonderful to see the positive impact our partnership continues to have.”

“The club’s ethos is not just about competition (although playing to win is important!), but also about fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among its members.

"As a family business who helps other entrepreneurs create a business on their own terms, so they have a healthier work-life-balance, having the right team all aligned to one vision is a core step in our mentoring programme.

"We have so much synergy with Pete and the club; it’s way more than just about bouncing a basketball, and we’re really looking forward to the season ahead!"
