How it works

Darren will pick a Player of the Week and four other selections to round out his Team of the Week, paying attention to the following criteria:

  • Efficiency
  • Stats
  • Team and opposition strength
  • Periods of influence in the game
  • Being on a winning team (exceptional performances from players on losing teams will be considered for TOTW)

The FocusHoops Team of the Week

Ruchae Walton - Barking Abbey, guard

30pts/11reb/5ast/6stl/34EFF

Walton led by example on Saturday with a 30-point, 11-rebound double-double to help Barking take down local rivals Brent. The Barking skipper was a constant menace for the Bulls as she went 9-11 from the stripe on her way to the team high score. Battling hard on the glass, Walton also dished out five assists and finished with six crucial steals.

Christabel Osarobo - Endeavour Ipswich Basketball, guard

16pts/11reb/3ast/3stl/2blk/26EFF

Osarobo’s 16-11 double-double helped Ipswich in their resounding win over Birmingham this weekend. Osarobo went 6-13 from the field, and battled on the glass with 11 boards, four on the offensive end. A force on defence Osarobo took away three steals and sent two shows back in the big win.

Helene Trailin - Thames Valley Cavaliers, forward

8pts/16reb/1ast/3stl/2blk/21EFF

Trailin dominated the boards in TVC’s victory over ARU this weekend, finishing with a game-high 16 rebounds, with seven coming on the offensive glass. Trailin took care of the rock, not committing a turnover and making three steals and two blocks of her own, whilst falling just shy of a double-double with eight points.

Harriet Welham - Endeavour Ipswich Basketball, guard

36pts/9reb/3ast/27EFF

Welham’s incredible scoring form continues as she racked up a weekend-high 36 points on 40% shooting and went to the line in eye-watering 16 times, draining 13. Just one board shy of a double-double Welham also found teammates on three occasions for baskets.

Daisy Porter - Loughborough Riders, guard

18pts/5reb/1ast/4stl/19EFF

Porter carried the scoring load for Loughborough in their win over Manchester. Porter bagged 18 points on 55% shooting, going an impressive 8-10 from the stripe. Porter finished with five boards, an assist and four steals in a busy 28 minutes in a close-fought victory.

Team basketball

Brilliant Barking

Barking Abbey secured an important win in their mid-table clash at home to local rivals Brent Bulls on Saturday thanks to a scoring show from Ruchae Walton who finished with a 30-11 double-double whilst racking up six steals along the way. Fouled on a three, the ever-cool Walton was sent to the strip by Brent with 10 seconds left in the game.

Down by one, Walton scored all-three freebies and it was the difference in an incredibly close contest. Walton’s heroics were supported by an excellent 18 points from Nicole Clancy and eight points from Tyra Phelan. Brent were led by 18 points and 13 rebounds double-double from Jess Davies and 13 points from Saruna Gudza.

Ipswich immense

Ipswich were dominant in victory over CoB Rockets this weekend, coming out on top 107-58 on the road. Harriet Welham led the way with a 36-9-3 performance, scoring half of Ipswich’s free-throws going 13-16 from the line. Welham’s scoring was backed up with 16-point games from Olivia Forster and Christabel Osarobo, who also had 11 rebounds. Louisa Gibbins came up huge on the glass with a game high 17 rebounds, pulling down 10 on the offensive end. The CoB Rockets were led by their captain, Michelle Turner, who finished with 16-6 in a tough contest for the newly promoted side.
