Great Britain recruiting men's team head coach and general manager

The British Basketball Federation is beginning a formal process to recruit a Head Coach and General Manager for the Great Britain men’s senior national team.

With the recent historic FIBA World Cup Qualifying campaign concluded, and a BBF review into the coaching and performance structure complete, recruitment is open for both positions.

The team’s success over the last number of years under the leadership of Nate Reinking and Marc Steutel – who have both filled the role of Head Coach in that time – has seen the Men’s team qualify for EuroBasket 2022 and advance further than any British National Team has done before in FIBA World Cup Qualifying, reaching the Second Qualifying Round for the first time.

BBF statement:

The Federation would like to place on record its sincere thanks for the work that Head Coach Nate Reinking and the staff have done in their time working with the team. With Nate’s successful NBA coaching career progressing at pace, however, he unfortunately cannot commit the time needed to continue in the role as Head Coach and, following consultation with the BBF, has vacated the position.

The BBF is eager to continue working with Nate in other ways, drawing on his considerable expertise and experience, for the betterment of the Federation moving forward and we’re excited to develop our relationship with him in the future.

The Federation would also like to thank Marc Steutel for his tireless work and willingness to step into the role of Head Coach when required in Nate’s absence over the last two campaigns.

We are extremely grateful to Marc and all the coaching and performance staff that have been involved in the programme over recent years and all of them are invited to apply for any positions of interest as the Federation looks to retool the team ahead of an exciting EuroBasket 2025 qualifying campaign.

Further information on the Head Coach and General Manager roles can be found here on the gb.basketball website.

The BBF statement continues:

It is important for the Federation to provide a consistent, high-performance staffing team that can not only support and lead the team during qualification windows, but also strategize and deliver a future for the team in a joined up way with support at an executive level.

The Head Coach and General Manager will work together in a strategic performance environment, allowing the Head Coach to devote the time needed to progressing on-court areas, whilst the General Manager drives the strategy and operations of the team in conjunction with the Head Coach. Once the Head Coach and General Manager have been appointed, they will be central to the recruitment of further staff members which we will share more information about in the coming weeks.

The National Team will utilise the summer ahead to put together a first-class coaching and performance structure to support the players, before attacking EuroBasket 2025 qualification head on in the winter. Further information on camps and preparatory friendlies taking place in the summer will be shared in due course.
