Sporting Equals: Peloton On Tour with Basketball England and England Netball

Basketball England joined Sporting Equals and Peloton for a fun-filled day of sport at The Regal in London.

The 'Peloton On Tour' event, which Sporting Equals hosted on the 1 December with support from BE and England Netball, brought together a number of friends, partners and associate members for a day filled with skills, drills and games.

Held at The Regal & Jordan Court in London, the event was a unique experience featuring renowned athletes, coaches and sector partners.

Arun Kang OBE, Chief Executive of Sporting Equals, opened the day by outlining the organisation's partnership, with Peloton and the positive benefits that sport and physical activity can have across all communities.

Participants engaged in energising warm-up exercises and skill-building drills with basketball sessions being run by Charles Vuong (England U14s Assistant Coach) and Carl Reid (Southwark Storm Coach).

Sporting Equals Peloton ambassadors were at the event and there was fierce competition in the netball and basketball games, with teams representing groups including Singh Saba Slough, Pulse Social, Fan View, Khawlah’s Warriors and We Belong.

Enjoy basketball without obstacles

“We are delighted to support Sporting Equals with its Peloton On Tour event that brings people together from different communities to enjoy sport and physical activity,” said Basketball England CEO Stewart Kellett.

“Although basketball is a highly accessible sport, people still face many barriers to getting involved. Events like today help elevate the voices and lived experiences of those who have had a hard time playing basketball, and other sports. Through a better understanding of what our community faces, we can help them to enjoy basketball more frequently and without obstacles.

“Part of that work comes in creating a managed network of 500 new community coaches aged 16 to 30 through the London Coaches Program with the NBA and the London Mayor’s Office. Coaches that are on the program, some of whom are here today, are building their life skills, coaching skills and employability, as well as showcasing the power of basketball to hundreds of thousands of young Londoners – dismantling barriers, growing the game and delivering great experiences.”

Sporting Equals said: "The Peloton On Tour event was a fun filled morning to celebrate our partnership with the global fitness brand. The event allowed those at all levels of sport to take part and enjoy the benefits of physical activity. We look forward to welcoming more individuals back to our future events and are very thankful for the support from the teams at Peloton, Basketball England and England Netball."
