Great Britain long list for EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers against Netherlands and Czech Republic

Great Britain head coach Marc Steutel has announced his 24-player roster for the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 qualifying games against the Netherlands and the Czech Republic this month.

Included in Steutel’s first squad since being confirmed as the permanent Head Coach in June 2023, are four GB squad debutants Dan Akin, Jubrile Belo, Kayne Henry and Josh Ward-Hibbert, as he and Dan Clark, who was confirmed as the General Manager for the team last summer, look to start an exciting new era by blending young talent with experienced players.

Although these will be the first games that Steutel and Clark will be in charge for since taking up their permanent positions, both have considerable experience in the GB Basketball set up and have formed a strong working relationship in recent years.

Steutel was interim Head Coach for the duration of the EuroBasket 2022 qualifying campaign and for the majority of World Cup 2023 qualifying, and this followed his success in various coaching roles for the GB pathway.

Clark played for the GB men's team a record-breaking 119 times, with the final games of his career being played under Steutel. He then worked with Marc again as he moved into a front office role after retiring from playing in 2022.

The GB Men's Basketball team face the Netherlands first in a home game on 23 February at the Vertu Arena in Newcastle and will then play the Czech Republic just three days later on 26 February.

Tickets for the home game are available now with the newly announced squad hoping that British basketball fans will fill the stands and show their support.

Marc Steutel said:

"We understand the challenge that lays ahead in what will be a very competitive qualifying group and we are excited to start this campaign.

"We face two opponents in the Netherlands and the Czech Republic who we have not seen in recent years and a powerhouse in Greece who we have played against in World Cup and EuroBasket competition. We are all focused on achieving our goals, the first of which, is qualifying for EuroBasket 2025.

"I am honoured to lead this exciting group of players and staff and guarantee we will approach the task at hand with the professionalism and responsibility it demands."

General Manager Dan Clark said:

"Any selection process is hard, especially when the depth to the talent pool is growing in size year on year, as is the case with GB basketball at the moment.

"We are all excited about a new campaign. I believe as a federation we are moving in the right direction and the commitment and desire from both players and coaches to make this a successful EuroBasket campaign will allow us to continue this positive direction."

Fourteen players will be invited to a training camp in Newcastle.
