WNBL1 recap: 24/25 February - live streams, stats and more

Ipswich came through a huge test, as they stated their claim to the D1W title yesterday.

The 2020/21 champs comfortably saw off rivals Brent to put their title destiny in their own hands, whilst Thames Valley, CoLA and others also picked up useful wins.

We take a look at all the weekend's action below, with links to live stats and live streams at the bottom of the page.

Brent Bulls (13-4) 50-85 Endeavour Ipswich Basketball (15-3)

The battle between the league's top two went the way of Endeavour Ipswich Basketball, who won 85-50.

Their closeness in the standings didn't translate onto the court, as the visitors romped out to a 23-9 lead after one, restricting the Bulls offence throughout the first half.

Up 49-15 at the main change, Ipswich were then able to coast to victory behind a 22 point, 11 rebound double-double from Harriet Welham.

The Ipswich captain comfortably took the duel with Brent standout Judit Fritz, who shot 2/12 to close on four points, as Brent suffered just their first home loss of the campaign.

Around Welham's display were strong outings for Olivia Forster and Christabel Osarobo (17pts each), with Yazmin Edwards adding a 10 point, 10 rebound double-double.

Eleanor Bishop (10pts, 6reb) and Kenisha Whyte (10pts) were the only Bulls to make it to double digits in a rough day at the office for the hosts.

Ipswich now own the tiebreaker, with each of their closest rivals, CoLA, Brent and Thames Valley, but with four games to go and a less threatening schedule remaining, it's unlikely the Suffolk programme will need any of them to claim the regular season crown.

Elsewhere this weekend

Nicole Clancy held her nerve at the line to help Barking Abbey (6-10) edge past Manchester Mystics (8-9) 55-53.

Clancy closed with a game-high 20 points, including five of BA's last seven points, to help get her team over the line, splashing four triples in the process.

Bristol Academy Flyers' (7-11) grip on the playoffs is slipping as they fell to a 70-59 home loss against Reading Rockets (6-7).

The Rockets were powered by a vintage 19 point, 14 rebound, six assist, five steal effort from Lindsey Cleary, as team mate Elia Ando (23pts, 12reb) added a double-double of her own.

CoLA Southwark Pride (11-5) had no problem seeing off City of Birmingham Rockets (3-15), limiting the relegation-threatened hosts to just 16 first half points on the way to a 60-43 win.

CoLA took the low-scoring contest behind a useful 16 points from forward Felicia Jacobs, restricting CoB to 18% shooting at the other end.

Thames Valley Cavaliers (13-4) round out the Saturday schedule by all but confirming a bottom two finish for Team Solent Kestrels (1-16), winning 67-47.

10 points apiece for Robyn Ainge (7reb) , Chinwe Iwunze (5reb, 5stl) and Katie Richards (6stl) were enough to leave TSK's hope dangling by a thread, with a loss next week against Reading being enough to seal a potential drop to D2W.
