Insurance
Am I covered by Basketball England’s programme of insurance?
If you have registered with Basketball England as a licenced member, and have paid your membership fee in full, then you are covered under Basketball England’s programme of insurance during your involvement in recognised basketball activity (as defined below) during the insurance period (subject to the terms and conditions of the policy).
This also applies for coaching and officiating as long as you are appropriately qualified and involved in recognised activity.
Recognised activity:
Includes the following versions of the game:
- 5v5 Basketball
- 3x3 Basketball
- Disability Basketball
Please note Walking Basketball, Wheelchair Basketball and Deaf Basketball are governed by separate, affiliated organisations.
Recognised activity also includes the following contexts:
- At a recreational level with casual participation in training, both competitive and non-competitive games at a local or regional level
- At a performance level with training and competition delivered specifically by Basketball England
Recognised activity also includes Basketball England branded participation programmes including:
- Slam Jam
- Junior NBA
- Aspire
- London Coaches Program

Is my basketball club covered by Basketball England Insurance?
Affiliated basketball clubs also benefit from insurance cover, providing the club has paid their affiliation fee in full and where all participants are members of Basketball England and participate in recognised versions of the game.
Is my league covered by Basketball England insurance?
Affiliated leagues benefit from insurance cover, providing the participants that play in the league are members of Basketball England and participate in recognised versions of the game.
Am I covered under Basketball England insurance as an unqualified coach?
No. You must hold at least a Basketball England L2 qualification and have paid your licence fee in full to be covered by Basketball England insurance.
However, if you are unqualified you will be able to assist a L2 qualified coach, providing you are also licenced with Basketball England.
Are non-members covered by Basketball England insurance when training at a registered club?
Non-members are not covered by Basketball England insurance.
However affiliated basketball clubs, are covered for ‘taster’ sessions (up to 5 sessions) as long as the non-members are sampling the club for the first time.
To be eligible for this cover, signed and dated attendance records must be kept by the club to evidence non-member activity.
Are members (players, coaches, officials etc.) covered by the insurance when taking part in recognise basketball activities with non-members, or playing against non-registered clubs)?
Insurance cover applies when licenced members are participating in recognised basketball activity and it is not dependent on who else is participating in the activity.
Am I still covered by Basketball England insurance if I become pregnant?
A pregnant member should only participate in recognised basketball activity with the approval of their doctor.
Neither Basketball England, the basketball club, or league will be held liable for any pregnant individual participating in recognised activity, should the expectant mother suffer any damage to herself and/or the unborn child as a result of participation.
Am I covered by Basketball England Insurance abroad?
The Basketball England personal accident policy provides cover for all members of Basketball England, who are participating in any recognised basketball activity anywhere in the world.

How long does it take for an invoice to be processed?
Invoices and expense forms will be processed by the Finance department within 30 working days of receipt unless requested otherwise.
