Basketball England announces new Digital Strength and Conditioning Partner, MatchFit Movement

Basketball England is pleased to announce MatchFit Movement as its Official Digital Strength and Conditioning Partner.

The partnership will provide Basketball England members with exclusive access to research-led strength and conditioning programmes designed specifically for young basketball players.

Members will also benefit from an exclusive 16% saving across the MatchFit Movement programme range, making high-quality athletic development more accessible for players, parents and coaches across the basketball community at just £17.99 a month.

MatchFit Movement also serves as Basketball England's Digital Strength and Conditioning Partner within the national talent pathway, supporting the athletic development of players progressing through the England performance system. This partnership now extends that expertise beyond the talent pathway, making evidence-informed athletic development available to basketball players at every stage of their journey.

The programmes have been developed by Mark Williams, Basketball England's Strength and Conditioning Lead and Founder of MatchFit Movement, in collaboration with Dr Jason Moran, an internationally recognised researcher in strength and conditioning with extensive expertise in youth athletic development, speed, strength and performance enhancement.

Mark brings extensive experience across both youth and senior international basketball, having worked with England and Great Britain athletes throughout the talent pathway and at senior international level. Alongside his applied work in high-performance sport, he is also a Senior Lecturer and published researcher specialising in youth athletic development, physical literacy and long-term athlete development.

Recognising that young athletes are not simply smaller versions of adults, the MatchFit Movement programmes are tailored according to age, sex, biological maturation and training experience. Drawing on the latest scientific evidence and years of practical experience within basketball, the programmes provide a structured and progressive approach to developing movement competency, strength, power, speed and overall athleticism.

Particular emphasis is placed on supporting young athletes through the adolescent growth spurt, a period associated with significant physical change and an increased risk of injury. By developing strength, coordination, balance and movement competency, the programmes help players navigate this important stage while building the physical foundations required for long-term participation, resilience and performance.

Vicky Roberts, Commercial Manager at Basketball England, said:

"We're delighted to welcome MatchFit Movement as our Official Digital Strength and Conditioning Partner. This partnership is about providing genuine added value to our members by giving young players, parents and coaches access to trusted, research-led support that can positively influence both performance and long-term participation in basketball.

"As we continue to enhance the benefits available through Basketball England membership, partnerships like this enable us to connect our community with expert resources that might otherwise be difficult to access. We're excited to work alongside MatchFit Movement to help support the development of players at every stage of their basketball journey."

Mark Williams, Basketball England Strength and Conditioning Lead and Founder of MatchFit Movement, said:

"Every young basketball player deserves access to high-quality athletic development support. Throughout my career, I have worked with athletes ranging from grassroots participants to senior international players, and one thing remains constant: building strong physical foundations is critical for both performance and long-term participation in sport.

"For many young athletes, adolescence can be a challenging period as rapid growth and physical change place new demands on the body. Strength and conditioning plays an important role in helping young players develop the movement skills, strength and resilience needed to navigate this stage successfully, while reducing injury risk and enhancing performance.

"We recognise that many young players do not currently have consistent access to age-appropriate strength and conditioning support at the point in their development when it can have the greatest impact. This is particularly important during adolescence, when physical changes can increase injury risk and affect movement quality.

"Importantly, our programmes are designed around biological as well as chronological age, ensuring that training is aligned to each individual's stage of development rather than simply their date of birth. Unlike many standalone programmes, MatchFit Movement provides a long-term athletic development pathway, with up to nine progressive 12-week training cycles that evolve alongside an athlete's growth, maturation and sporting development.

"Through this partnership, we're excited to make the same evidence-informed principles that underpin our work within Basketball England's talent pathway available to the wider basketball community. Whether a player is taking their first steps in the game or pursuing performance-level ambitions, these programmes are designed to support their development in a safe, progressive and age-appropriate way."

The partnership reinforces Basketball England's commitment to supporting the holistic development of players both on and off the court, while continuing to enhance the value of Basketball England membership through access to trusted products, services and expertise.

Further information, including programme details and how members can access the exclusive 16% Basketball England member saving, will be available through Basketball England and MatchFit Movement in the coming weeks.
