Elite Academy Leagues preview - Week Four (19/11/25)

Unbeaten Manchester and Derby go head-to-head in the EABL North, and South leaders City of London Academy - Southwark are on the road against HHS Reading Rockets.

In the WEABL, North leaders Charnwood travel to another unbeaten side, The Sheffield College, and CoLA can stretch their lead at the top of the South standings as they mirror the EABL fixture against the Rockets.

North rivals go at it

The EABL North rivalry between Charnwood College Riders and Myerscough College is always one to savour each season, with the opening chapter for 2025/26 getting underway this week in the Midlands.

Often competing at the top of the North standings, including playing out a classic in the EABL Playoff Final in 2021/22, the pair always play hard in their match-ups and put on a show for EABL fans. Charnwood's Tristan Curran (feature image) will look to lead the charge for the hosts, paying close attention to Myerscough's Olivier Esingle, who averages a team-high 17.0PPG this season.

With both programmes looking to catch unbeaten leaders Manchester, and with one loss apiece against their names already, neither will want to slip up against their old foe.

Surprise WEABL North leaders

Few would have pegged The Sheffield College to be holding top spot on the WEABL North come mid-November, but the South Yorkshire programme have picked up wins in both of their opening two games to move ahead of the pack.

Beating Charnwood and MK5D, Sheffield have a chance to further press their claim for the title against WEABL newcomers BMET City of Birmingham Rockets as they continue to get acclimatised to the demands of Tier 1 basketball.

With the potential for moving to 3-0, that also puts pressure on last year's finalist Manchester as well as contenders Nottingham Academy Wildcats to keep pace with wins of their own.

Leaders CoLA to capitalise?

City of London Academy - Southwark already sit top of the EABL South, and with a game this week against 0-1 Oaklands College, plus their nearest rivals in the standings Barking and Itchen both without a game, CoLA can further stretch their advantage at the top.

The WEABL programme can do the same if they can overcome the Wolves and reigning Player of the Week Holly Welch, whilst defending champs Copleston will be looking for their first win of the new season as they host HHS Reading Rockets.
