Elite Academy Leagues preview - Week Fourteen (25/02/26)

The WEABL North title was the final crown to be decided for 2025/26, with Nottingham taking it following a 20-0 forfeit by Charnwood on Monday afternoon.

Whilst perhaps not the way the Wildcats expected to be celebrating, they still head into the post-season as one the WEABL's #1 seeds along with South champs CoLA.

The playoffs begin on 4 March, with the semi-finals taking place on 11 March and the finals going ahead on Thursday, 26 March to avoid a clash with BUCS Big Wednesday on 25 March.

The final Wednesday of the regular season still contains five contests, settling the final playoff places in the WEABL North alongside completing the schedules of Copleston and HHS Reading Rockets in both leagues.

WEABL North

Nottingham will be champs and #1 seeds no matter what happens in their match up with Manchester, as the Mystics are also locked into the #2 spot as well.

Still, the game offers another chance for two leading programmes to lock horns and is sure to provide a great test for both sides despite nothing being on the line.

Charnwood's 20-0 on Monday has left them on the outside of the playoff picture going into the final day. They have to grab a positive result against Sheffield otherwise they'll miss the post-season for the first time in WEABL history. 

The Riders route to the playoffs is to beat Sheffield by nine or more, and hope MK5D beat BMet. Winning by eight to tie the head-to-head doesn't help Charnwood due to their poorer points difference compared to Sheffield (-52 against -21), and neither does a three-way tie at 4-6.

If Sheffield can beat Charnwood, they'll be the #3 seeds as they own the head-to-head tiebreaker with MK5D.

The Milton Keynes programme can also punch their ticket to the post-season with any kind of win, an incredible achievement in just their second year.

In the event that Charnwood were to beat Sheffield, and MK5D lost to BMet, all three teams would sit on 4-6 records.

That scenario would create a mini-league table between the trio, with Sheffield third, MK5D fourth, and Charnwood fifth barring an unlikely 50-point Charnwood win to swing their points difference.

Copleston and HHS finish things up

Outside of the WEABL North, the only action left in the regular-season is in Reading as HHS host Copleston for a pair of contests.

There's no impact on the standings for either game, putting pride on the line for both programmes instead and the chance to finish the regular season on a high.

Copleston's EABL side have ensured a tough 0-9 campaign to date but will hope to get into the win column against their nearest opponents, the 2-7 Rockets.

The Suffolk side are secured as the #2 seed in the WEABL South no matter what happens in their clash on Wednesday, with the 1-8 Rockets also unable to move off bottom spot regardless of the outcome.
