Elite Academy Leagues preview - Week Nine (14/01/26)

Rivals clash across the Academy landscape this week, with the EABL North's top two Manchester and Myerscough headlining the latest batch of contests.

The WEABL North action sees Manchester and Nottingham both looking to keep their good form going, with MK5D, Sheffield and Charnwood all still fighting to be in the playoff mix.

The South Conference double ups in the WEABL and EABL sees Itchen head to Copleston and Oaklands hosting HHS Reading Rockets.

Big games across the EABL

6-0 Manchester host 5-1 Myerscough on Wednesday afternoon, with Magic being responsible for their rivals' only loss in the first half of the season.

That 71-60 scoreline will also be important, with visiting Myerscough needing to win by 12 or more to secure the head-to-head tiebreaker between the two sides.

Midlands rivals Charnwood and Derby also lock horns for the upper hand in securing the Conference's #3 seed, and BMet and SGS will be hoping to narrow the gap to whoever loses that contest, potentially sneaking into the #4 spot in the coming weeks.

If the EABL South contests go to form, both Itchen and Oaklands should be able to close the gap to just three points on leaders CoLA, assuming they can overcome 0-5 Copleston and 1-3 HHS respectively.

WEABL excitement builds

4-0 Nottingham and 3-1 Manchester will both be hoping for further wins this week as they take on Sheffield and BMet respectively. The duo are still on a collision course for their second meeting of the year in late February, with both hoping to stay unscathed until then.

MK5D are just a win away from moving into playoff contention and their game with 3-2 Charnwood will go a long way to proving if the Milton Keynes' programme have what it takes to make the post-season in their second WEABL campaign.

Defending champs Copleston will have revenge on their mind as they host 2-3 Itchen, the only side to beat the Suffolk outfit in the first half of the season.

4-1 Copleston can also move into a tie for top spot in the South Conference with a win, providing further motivation if needed.

That just leaves 1-4 Oaklands and 0-4 HHS to battle it out, with the Wolves potentially moving into a tie for the #4 spot if they can be unfriendly hosts.
