Elite Academy Leagues recap (14 Jan 2026)

Myerscough took the EABL North's big match-up, but there was a sting in the tail as Manchester retained the head-to-head tiebreaker between the sides.

Itchen, SGS and Oaklands also recorded EABL wins, but Charnwood's clash with Derby was called off in OT and the outcome will need to be decided by a competition panel.

Nottingham and Manchester both kept their sights on top spot in the WEABL North with further wins, and Copleston and Oaklands enjoyed success in the South.

Standout performances

Olivier Esingle (20pts), Zach Trezvant (13pts) and a 25-19 opening quarter helped Myerscough to a 78-71 win over Manchester, but with Magic retaining the head-to-head between the sides, winning out in their last three games will still see Manchester take top spot in the EABL North.

SGS moved into the mix for the playoffs as they beat BMet 77-67 for their second win of the campaign thanks to a big day from Kevin Ramirez Mora.

In the EABL South, Itchen cruised to a 105-54 victory in Copleston, and Oaklands had no problems seeing off HH  91-62.

Copleston returned the favour on Itchen's WEABL unit, running away to a sizable 87-28 W behind another standout performance from forward Holly Ensoll.

Manchester were able to navigate an under-strength BMet side for a 77-55 win, keeping the gap to WEABL North leaders Nottingham intact after the Wildcats' own 103-53 victory against Sheffield.

Oaklands WEABL side ensured that HHS' trip to St Albans was a fruitless one, copying the EABL programme's success with a 62-52 win of their own.

What does it mean for the standings? 

Manchester and Myerscough are now tied atop the EABL North, with Magic keeping themselves just ahead with the tiebreaker. SGS's second win brings them level with Trailblazers in fourth, though much will depend on the outcome of the Charnwood v Derby contest before the two sides meet in early February.

Oaklands and Itchen are both just a win behind leaders CoLA in the South, with Barking aiming to play catch-up once they're back in action.

Copleston have moved into a tie at the top of the WEABL South on 15 points, with Oaklands keeping themselves in the playoff hunt with their latest win.

The WEABL North still remains with Nottingham as they stayed perfect at 5-0, leaving Manchester to keep battling in the hope that the Wildcats slip up.

Player-of-the-week candidates 

Itchen's Marley Edwards (23pts, 6reb) and Ethan Round (21pts, 6reb, 4ast) provided too much for Copleston to overcome despite Matt Liddamore's 20/9 near-double-double.

Myerscough needed every bit of production from Olivier Esingle (20pts, 9reb, 4ast) and Zach Trezvant (13pts, 17reb, 3ast) to cancel out a stat-stuffing performance from Manchester's Demi Babalola (16pts, 9reb, 10ast, 5stl, 4blk).

Kevin Ramirez Mora (20pts, 12reb, 3ast, 3stl) was the hero for SGS as they topped Larry Duru (30pts, 18reb) and BMet, with Liam McIntosh (26pts, 10reb, 4ast) headlining Oaklands' win against HHS.

The the WEABL, there were also plenty of worthy performances starting with a 23-point, 20-rebound, seven-block game from Copleston forward Holly Ensoll.

Kaiya Bateman (15pts, 10reb, 6ast, 6stl) and Angel Whyte (22pts, 8reb, 6ast, 9stl) also chipped in with solid performances in support.

Paige Jagger (23pts, 13reb) and Izzy Aldcroft (16pts, 12reb) both enjoyed Manchester's outing against BMet, though Aida Badiane deserves credit for her 14-point, 13-rebound, six-steal stat line in defeat.

Isabelle Dalmedo (21pts, 10reb) couldn't help Sheffield fend off Kyrah Johnson (21pts, 7reb, 5ast, 9stl) and Tiarna Chambers-Desmond (19pts, 7reb, 4ast, 4stl, 3blk) as Nottingham grabbed their latest win.

Oaklands' Molly Barton (19pts, 6reb, 3stl) and HHS' Matilda Upfold (12pts, 12reb, 2ast, 4stl) had a great back-and-forth in the Wolves win against the Rockets as well.
