Standout performances 

Only double over-time could settle the EABL’s only fixture this week -  Trailblazers vs Riders - which would end 95-97 in Charnwood’s favour. 

The game would swing back and forth between the two sides in normal time, with the Blazers’ Casey Burr grabbing a lay-up with 20 seconds to go to put the scores on 67-apiece at the end of the fourth quarter. 

Then in OT1, it was Charnwood’s turn to chase the game, grabbing a tie through Zavier Gleadell-Smith's tip-in to force a second OT. 

Rudy Buckingham was able to create daylight for the Riders with his back-to-back threes, opening a six point gap that the Blazers could only close down to two before the buzzer sounded.  

In the WEABL, there were two games in the North Conference, both featuring a dominant Nottingham Wildcats, who beat Manchester Mystics 63-56 on Wednesday and then The Sheffield College 88-52 on Thursday.  

In the away fixture at the Manchester Basketball Centre, the Wildcats were up by 11 at half-time and extended that to 16 by the end of the third.  

Not even a 20-point performance from Paige Jagger and a double-double from GB’s Irene Oboavwoduo were enough for the Mystics to overcome the deficit. 

An inspired Tiarna Chambers-Desmond led the charge for Nottingham, picking herself up a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds.   

Last week’s Player of the Week Ophelia Larder-Lee also chipped in 13 points and Kosi Anyanwu 14.  

In the next game, this time at the Wildcats Arena, captain Chambers-Desmond put in another outstanding double-double (23 pts and 14 rebounds) to upset the league leaders (at the time), The Sheffield College, who’s best performer was Sharmaine Carabana.  

What does it mean for the standings? 

Charnwood are now a 50% team and move into third place and can put some pressure on Myerscough for the second playoff spot in EABL North. Blazers drop to fourth, joining Birmingham Met and SGS Basketball on a 1-3 record.  

The Wildcats are now 4-0 and the only unbeaten side in the WEABL North Conference. They leapfrog Sheffield College into first.
