eScoring goes past 3,300 games for the season, mandatory for 2026/27

• eScoring is to become mandatory for all NBL competitions for the 2026/27 season - paper scoresheets will not be permitted.
• Teams who aren't using eScoring already are encouraged to start before the end of the 2025/26 season.
• Over 3,300 NBL games (3,363 in total) have been eScored so far in 2025/26, including January's Sure Shot, NBL and WNBL Cup Finals in Worcester.

After the introduction of eScoring via PlayHQ at the start of the 2025/26 season, the option has gone from strength-to-strength to revolutionise the recording of a game at all levels - and feed Basketball England's ground-breaking free HoopsHQ app with live scores, stats, standings and more.

Countless local league competitions across the country have embraced the move, and over 3,300 NBL fixtures have also used eScoring during the current campaign, all appearing on HoopsHQ for players, parents and fans to track.

Over 50% of NBL games have been eScored each weekend since the start of November 2025, with a peak at 65% this past weekend (7/8 February 2026).

As a result, eScoring will become mandatory for all NBL competitions in 2026/27 and beyond, and clubs that are not currently using eScoring are encouraged to use the remainder of the current season to get up to speed with what is required.

What is eScoring?

The eScoring function can be used through PlayHQ, replacing paper scoresheets.

This means that when eScoring is used, there is no need to submit a photo of the scoresheet or upload the result/top scorers to BE. Once an eScored game has been closed and synced with the internet, the result is automatically uploaded for you.

How does eScoring work?

The eScoring system can be used on any electronic device that connects to the internet. We would recommend using a laptop or tablet for the games. The eScoring portal can be accessed using the button below:

An internet connection is only required to start and finish a scoring session. A scoring session covers any games at the venue for your club on that day.

This means if you have a venue without internet, or poor/unreliable coverage, you can still score digitally as long as you start the scoring session while you have internet at home/outside a venue, and then end it when you have internet coverage again to finish and submit the score(s).

What training is available?

We understand that although many clubs have adopted eScoring and are now comfortable with the process and the benefits, others will need some assistant between now and the start of 2026/27.

Training materials were sent to all table officials with instructions on how to use the eScoring system at the start of the current season.

eScoring was also covered at the in-person officiating conferences which took place throughout the country in September 2025.

HoopsHQ keeps fans in the heart of the action

HoopsHQ is the one-stop shop for everyone participating and following Basketball England’s leagues and competitions, including the NBL, WNBL and Jnr. NBL.

It means players, coaches and supporters will be able access up-to-the-minute information on games, including – where digital scoring is utilised – live updates. FIBA Live Stats will still be used in relevant NBL and WNBL competitions.

The app will feature scores, standings and fixtures, plus basic player and team stats, and will be where participants' Basketball England licence cards will be hosted for the upcoming season.
