GB 3x3 teams finish August Nations League campaign on a high
Great Britain’s U21 and U23 3x3 teams rounded off a busy August of Nations League action, with the U23 women finishing the campaign in style by claiming victory at the final stop in Bratislava.
Four GB teams competed across the month, with the U23 men and women taking on six stops across Czechia and Slovakia, while the U21 men and women contested three stops in Romania.
The U23 programme began in Czechia, with both teams using the opening three stops to gain valuable experience of international 3x3 competition and build as groups.
As the campaign moved to Slovakia, there were clear signs of progress across both U23 teams.
The U23 women reached the final at Stop 5 before going one better at 6, winning all three of their games to claim the title. The U23 men also reached the final at Stop 4, providing further evidence of the teams' development as the campaign progressed.
For the U23 women, their success in Bratislava represented a particularly impressive conclusion to a two-week programme that saw the group continue to grow with each outing.
U23 women’s head coach Sarah Hopkins-Chery was delighted with the progress shown by her players:
"It’s been a quick but incredibly rewarding two weeks with our U23 women’s group. From the final roster to those who joined us for our two-day prep camp, everyone was focused, committed and fully embraced the process.
"We had a mixture of experience within the group, from 3X3 rookies to KJ and Ella, who brought experience from the Commonwealth Games. The players connected quickly, paid close attention to detail, worked hard and improved every day. I’m extremely proud of their efforts, and they fully deserved the success they achieved.
"To go from Stops 1–3, where we were involved in many close games, to Stops 4–6, where we lost just two games, reached two finals including winning Stop 6, tells you everything you need to know about our team. The growth and resilience they showed was outstanding.
"Our women represented GB exceptionally well, and their performances continue to highlight the excitement, competitiveness and potential of 3X3."
The U21 men and women also gained valuable international experience during their three-stop campaign in Romania.
The U21 women finished their opening two stops with closely fought contests before recording their first win at Stop 3, while the U21 men also showed improvement as the campaign progressed, finishing their final two stops with 1-1 records.
Across the four teams, the August Nations League programme provided an important opportunity for GB’s emerging 3x3 players to test themselves against international opposition and continue their development.
For the U23 women in particular, the campaign ended with a statement of intent, as their Stop 6 victory capped a period of clear improvement and resilience — and provided an encouraging conclusion to a productive summer for GB 3x3.
