Get school-aged children active and engaged with basketball through renewed and improved Slam Jam

This year, the programme is better than ever, with equipment packs put together with schools and clubs in mind. 

Created by basketball and educational experts, the programme gives children a great first experience of basketball – helping children develop all the basic skills and techniques to understand and enjoy the game.  

Schools 

For only £225, registered schools will get a specialist equipment pack that consists of:  

• 10 x Slam Jam size five Wilson basketballs 

• 10 x foam balls 

• 15 x Slam Jam markers 

• 10 x Slam Jam bibs 

• 1 x Training resource 

• 1 x Equipment bag 

The training resource is aligned with the national curriculum and will support teachers to deliver basketball over a 6-12 week period, whether they have coached the sport before or not.  

Sessions can be delivered as part of PE lessons or after-school clubs, and teachers will receive training to deliver the programme. 

The basis of the resource is to use basketball as a vehicle to develop students’ fundamental and perceptual movement skills. 

Schools will also have the option of being affiliated with one of BE’s member clubs as a programme partner.

Clubs  

For registered clubs, Slam Jam has been split into two programmes - Slam Jam Intro and Slam Jam Play - after feedback from Basketball England members. 

Slam Jam Intro teaches the children the basic basketball skills of throwing, catching, footwork and shooting. 

The Basketball England fee for Slam Jam Intro costs £12.99 per-participant.  

Every participant will receive an equipment pack sent directly to their club within 72 hours of the registration form closing, containing: 

• 1 x Slam Jam size five Wilson basketball 

• 1x Slam Jam drawstring bag 

• 1 x Slam Jam T-shirt 

Slam Jam Play follows on from the introductory Slam Jam programme and is for participants who are ready to advance into small-sided games and more complicated basketball movements.  

New resources and lessons have been developed to further participants’ understanding and appreciation of the sport. 

The Basketball England fee for Slam Jam Play costs £13.99 per-participant. 

Every participant will receive an equipment pack sent directly to their club within 72 hours pf the registration form closing, containing:   

• 1 x Slam Jam reversible jersey 

• 1 x Slam Jam wristband 

• 1 x Slam Jam drawstring bag 

Both programmes can be run for either six or 12 weeks and will be housed on BE’s membership platform PlayHQ, meaning participants will sign-up for their club-based Slam Jam sessions through the platform – where they can also personalise their t-shirt and reversible jersey from their equipment packs, depending on what programme they sign-up for.  

Clubs can also purchase the Slam Jam equipment pack (as described above) but this is entirely optional.
