Glasgow 2026: Commonwealth Games preparation continues for Team England with Belgrade stop
The England 3x3 Women’s and Men’s teams are in Belgrade, Serbia for a prep-camp as they build momentum towards the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Organised in association with BV Basketball Academy and renowned international basketball coach Bane Vukovic, the teams will be hosted at Belgrade Arena by Partizan Belgrade.
From the 22 June to the 2 July, they will train and scrimmage alongside Partizan’s 3x3 team and the Serbian national team, as well receive professional support by the country’s top coaches, including Kazakhstan 3x3 Men's head coach and pro 3x3 player Filip Pejovic.
Belgrade is the latest in a series of camp and competition stops arranged by Basketball England – that’s included Manchester, Dublin, and GB activity in Sheffield and Bucharest – as part of its Commonwealth Games preparation plan, with selected athletes vying for a chance to lead England in Glasgow in July.
That cohort has now been whittled down to six each, of which four (plus two reserves) will be announced as the official Men’s and Women’s teams to fight for medals at the Games.
Head coaches Sarah Hopkins-Chery and Julius Joseph MBE will be keeping a keen eye on proceedings as they continue to assess their options ahead of final selection.
The final 12-athlete Commonwealth Games shortlist is:
Women
- Marlee Ball
- Shanice Beckford-Norton
- Georgia Gayle
- Cheridene Green
- Katie Januszewska
- Nina Rickards
Men
- Jamell Anderson
- Veron Eze
- Toto Fagbenle
- Ashley Hamilton
- Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye
- Evan Walshe
Out in the Serbian capital, the teams will be supported by physiotherapists Peter Thain and Ross Knevett, and Team Manager/BE 3x3 Development Manager Meehra Gorasia, and the men will have additional player support in Hemel Storm's Kai Walker.
At Glasgow 2026 the 3x3 competition starts on the 24 July to the 29 July at Scottish Exhibition Campus, where England will hope to defend the gold and silver medals won in Birmingham four years ago.
England Women’s and Men’s 3x3 teams qualified for the Games after a home nations tournament hosted at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester.
