Glasgow 2026: England Men win 3x3 gold - report, reaction, gallery and more

After the women's journey ended on Tuesday evening, the men made no mistake as they wrapped up their title defence with a 21-16 semi-final victory against New Zealand and a nail-biting 19-17 win over Australia in the showpiece game.

Men’s 3x3 Basketball Semi-Final - England 21-16 New Zealand

England came through a roller-coaster ride against New Zealand to book a spot in the gold medal game, winning 21-16.

Despite England holding the higher seed as Pool B winners, New Zealand showed why they came through their play-in game with a victory over Singapore as they made the defending champs work for ever inch at Glasgow's SEC.

Despite winning by five, the teams were tied at 16-16 before Evan Walshe (4pts, 4reb) scored four of the game's final points, with Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye (6pts, 4reb) then icing the game from the line.

Every time Coach Joseph's outfit looked to pull ahead, NZ pegged them back, keeping fans on the edge of their seats as the game ebbed and flowed.

A 6-2 score to England became 7-7 and 15-11 became 16-all, but Walshe's late offence ensured England would have enough in the bank to see off any late drama.

Ashley Hamilton (8pts) dropped a team-high total that included 2/2 from range, countering eight points from NZ's Christian Martin.

Men’s 3x3 Basketball Final - England 19-17 Australia

England successfully defended their Commonwealth Games title with a hard-fought, nerve-jangling 19-17 win against Australia.

Beaten finalists from four years ago in Birmingham, Australia were out for revenge and gave everything they had in a clash that could have gone either way.

The Australian physicality created a game that Jamell Anderson (5pts, 3reb) said 'was exactly what England wanted', and the quartet rose to the occasion to keep their Commonwealth Games streak intact.

In a cagey affair, neither side could pass the five-point mark across the first four minutes, and neither side would lead by more than three points until the final 60 seconds of the contest.

That honour would go to England as they found their stride when they needed it most, edging ahead 18-14 off baskets from Walshe (3pts), a dunk from Anderson and a lay-up from Lautier-Ogunleye (7pts, 5reb). Ashley Hamilton rounded out an even England offence with four points and four boards.

Australia had more than one shot at the death to exorcise the ghosts of four years ago, but all missed the mark as seconds ebbed off the clock, leaving England to celebrate another Commonwealth gold.
