Great Britain 3x3 programme builds towards LA 2028 with summer pathway
The Great Britain 3x3 programme is set for another significant summer on the international stage, as the pathway towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games continues to gather momentum across senior and youth levels.
With a growing focus on long-term player development and increasing opportunities for younger athletes to experience elite international competition earlier in their careers, the summer schedule reflects the programme’s ambition to establish a sustainable pipeline of 3x3 talent throughout Great Britain.
This year’s campaign begins with the FIBA Europe Cup Qualifiers in Bucharest, Romania from June 16-17, before attention turns to the next generation of players through a busy Under-21 and Under-23 schedule across Europe and Asia.
The full GB summer schedule, the delivery of which will be supported by the GB Interim Delivery Group, includes the following events for men’s and women’s players:
- June 16-17 – FIBA Europe Cup Qualifiers; Bucharest, Romania
- July 3-5 – Under-21 Nations League Stop One; Bucharest, Romania
- August 6-8 – Under-23 Nations League; Mariánské Lázn, Czechia
- August 7-9 5 – Under-21 Nations League Stop Two; Bucharest, Romania
- August 11-13 – Under-23 Nations League; Bratislava, Slovakia
- September 15-19 – FIBA Under-23 World Cup; Wuhan, China (should GB qualify)
This will also be underpinned by GB preparation camps.
The continued investment into youth competition is viewed as a crucial step in strengthening Great Britain’s long-term Olympic ambitions.
By exposing players to the demands and style of 3x3 basketball earlier in their development, the programme aims to create a clearer pathway for athletes to transition into senior international competition and professional 3x3 opportunities in future years.
The strategy also aligns closely with the work currently being undertaken by the home nations, with both England and Scotland operating comprehensive 3x3 programmes ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The GB Interim Delivery Group will also work in collaboration with London.3x3 to support their programme of activity this summer, with the likes of Ashley Hamilton, Jamell Anderson and others part of their FIBA 3x3 World Tour Challenger Series push.
That includes the following events:
- May 27/28 – Brasilia Challenger, Brazil
- June 21/22 - Lion City Challenger, Singapore
- June 27/28 – Reunion Challenger, France
More Challenger events will confirmed in due course. The team has already attended Challengers in Japan and the Philippines.
The increased collaboration and alignment across the pathway is helping to provide players with more opportunities to compete internationally while further embedding 3x3 basketball within the British basketball landscape.
3x3 Programme Manager Meehra Gorasia believes the summer represents another important step in the continued growth of the programme.
“This summer is a really exciting opportunity for us to continue building the foundations for the future of GB 3x3,” said Gorasia. “We’re focused not only on competing now, but on creating an environment where younger players can gain meaningful international experience much earlier in their journey.
“The growth of the game across England and Scotland ahead of the Commonwealth Games is also hugely positive for the wider pathway. The more opportunities our players have to train, compete and develop within high-level 3x3 environments, the stronger the future of the programme becomes as we build towards Los Angeles 2028.”
A GB U23 Women’s select side will set the ball rolling this weekend, accompanying the England Women’s team – fresh from securing qualification to the 2026 Commonwealth Games – to Ireland for a preparation camp.
Representing the Under-23s on this camp will be Issy Bunyan, Katie Januszewska, McKenzie Mathurin and Precious Omoshola.
