Great Britain 83-71 Austria: Winterburn leads comeback win

Never-say-die Great Britain downed previously unbeaten Austria to move to 4-1 and top of Group D in their Women's EuroBasket 2027 Qualification campaign.

Head coach Krumesh Patel's team had already sealed their passage to the second qualification phase of the competition thanks to their win in Switzerland on Wednesday.

But they have set their sights on a 100% record during the March window and have - so far - achieved that.

Holly Winterburn - back in the team after being unavailable for the trip to Fribourg - was integral to the success tonight. She spoke before the game about her style of leadership and relishing the responsibility of playing for her country and demonstrated it on court to drive the team on with a near-triple-double of 25 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.

Kristine Anigwe was a strong paint presence with 15 and eight rebounds, while Savannah Wilkinson had an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double and Cheridene Green also hit 10 (seven rebounds).

Austria edged the first half by a point and led by as many as eight. But a 29-15 fourth quarter in the hosts' favour turned the tide, with Hannah Robb's big three to take the lead to seven with 1.13 remaining the highlight of a breathless last few minutes.

Winterburn, via a couple of trips to the line, and Georgia Gayle, who had eight points in total, stretched the advantage further.

Patel will want to complete the mission on Tuesday - on the same National Basketball Performance Centre court - against winless Norway.
