Switzerland 58-77 Great Britain: Progress to second round secured on debut win for head coach Patel
Krumesh Patel enjoyed a win on his senior national team head coaching debut as Great Britain secured progress to the second round of Women's EuroBasket 2027 qualification with a commanding win in Switzerland.
The recently installed playcaller saw his team engineer a solid victory in Fribourg to seal their passage to the next phase ahead of their Manchester double-header against Austria on Saturday and Norway on Tuesday.
GB were led by an efficient 21-point, 13-rebound double-double from Kristine Anigwe, who the hosts could not contain, while the experienced Shanice Beckford-Norton (17 points), Savannah Wilkinson (16, 8rbs) and Cheridene Green (14) were also influential.

Patel's team's speed in transition and prowess on the boards at both ends of the court were the foundation of their win as they bettered their opponents in fast-break points, points in the paint and second-chance points to lead for all bar the opening seconds of the contest.
They were up 23-12 after the first quarter, 37-23 at the half and 55-46 going into the final period with their lead peaking at 21.
The win, a second over the Swiss during the group stage and one that puts them second in the Group D standings, will give the team further confidence ahead of their two games at the National Basketball Performance Centre.
