Key figures across British Basketball meet to discuss future governance of the sport

The discussions come during a period of transition for the sport following a number of governance challenges including the British Basketball Federation moving into liquidation last year.

The meeting took place ahead of Great Britain’s FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifier against Italy and is the first part of a wider consultation process currently being led by the three Home Country Associations - Basketball England, Basketball Scotland and Basketball Wales - following a request from FIBA to explore a future governance model for the sport.

The meeting brought together representatives from the national governing bodies, professional leagues and other key stakeholders, marking the first time many parties had come together in person since the recent litigation between the British Basketball Federation and Super League Basketball. The meeting was independently chaired by Tim Hollingsworth, former CEO of Sport England.

The meeting was described as positive and constructive, with clear willingness from all parties to collaborate in shaping a stronger future for British basketball. Stakeholders agreed on the importance of continued dialogue and further meetings will take place in the coming months as the process progresses, with the consultation widened to include other voices from the wider Basketball Community.

Sam Neter attended representing a group of independents that he has been working with alongside Mark Clark. The group began its own consultation process several months ago and will now work collaboratively with this process to ensure that the best possible model for the future governance of basketball in Great Britain is achieved.
