Northants Thunder were crowned inaugural Aspire Challenge Cup champions.
The pilot competition tipped off at the Mattioli Arena, Leicester, on 5 September, bringing together six Central Region clubs, 96 players and eight coaches for a day of competition and talent identification.
Designed for players born in 2014 and 2015, young athletes had the opportunity to experience a full day of competitive basketball, with every team guaranteed a minimum of five games. After a consistent display of skill, teamwork and determination throughout the tournament, Thunder were crowned 2026 champions.
The tournament served as an important talent identification opportunity for Aspire Pathway Coaches, allowing them to observe emerging players ahead of the 2026-27 Aspire cycle while strengthening connections with club coaches and parents from across the region.

Wayne Brooks, Regional Talent Manager for the Central Region, said:
"This was a really positive experience for the players, some of whom were taking part in their first ever competitive basketball games. We saw a range of talented young athletes who may not otherwise have been identified at this stage. Coaches were also able to rehearse their x and o’s ahead of the new season.
“The Aspire Challenge Cup is a great addition to the programme and will play an important role in helping us identify and support talented players early in their development whilst they are in their element enjoying playing the game!"
The event featured teams from Bristol Flyers, Walsall Wizards, Bromsgrove Bears, Smethwick Sparks, Coventry Tornadoes and Northants, and was supported by officials ranging from Level 1 to Level 5 accreditation, who also had the opportunity to apply new rule changes ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Players identified by Aspire staff during the day will be invited to upcoming Aspire Skills Camps as the pathway begins its new cycle.
