School Games National Finals: Medal haul for England 3x3 teams - gallery and results

3x3

Three England teams were on the podium at the School Games National Finals, collecting a fantastic haul of two silver medals and a bronze.

Three England Men’s and three England Women’s teams competed in the U18s tournament, which was hosted at Loughborough University from the 3-6 September, facing the Celtic nations of Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

In the Men’s competition, England Tigers had secured themselves a silver after beating their counterparts England Lions 18-13 in the semi-finals.

However, Ireland put a stop to them going all the way in the final with a comprehensive 21-11 victory.

It was a similar story on the Women’s side of the bracket too, with all the England squads making it to the semi-finals, England Lionesses had beaten England Tigresses 16-12 to also set up a final against Ireland.

But again, Ireland had the upper hand beating the home-team 18-5 and pushing them into second place.

The Tigresses faced the Leopardesses in the third-place play off with the former winning bronze 11-9

In the third-place playoff in the Men’s competition, the Lions took on Scotland and settled for fourth place after the boys in blue beat them 21-9.

England Leopards wrapped up the placing games with a 15-9 victory over Wales to finish fifth.

There was also an equivalent tournament for wheelchair basketball athletes, with England Boys Orange and England Girls Purple winning gold.

This summer, the England senior men’s 3x3 team made history winning back-to-back gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and one of the squad’s stars, Ashley Hamilton, was in Loughborough to open the competition.
