CoLA, Ipswich go once more

CoLA vs Ipswich always provides basketball fans with a spectacle, and as a top vs fourth match-up, there's plenty riding on Saturday's contest.

Tied on 14 points with Manchester, Pride can't afford to lose ground at the top of the standings. Ipswich have already dropped three of their opening eight games, and their injury-hit squad also needs to keep their foot on the accelerator right up to the mid-season break.

A rematch of last season's Playoff Final, much will rest on the shoulders of three key Ipswich standouts.

Harriet Welham's offensive production will be key, as it so often is for the Suffolk side. CoLA limited Welham to 6/22 FGs and forced five turnovers last April during the D1W showpiece, so the Londoners know how to slow down one of the league's stars.

Limiting CoLA's standout guard Ayla Habbal will likely fall to Maisie Keyes, if she is able to suit up following an injury-hit start to the season. Otherwise expect Jahveina Whyte to continue filling the guard spot for Coach Drane's side.

Then there's the battle on the glass between CoLA's premium forward duo of Adaora Dioramma and Eva-Grace Yebila, with Ipswich's own towering forward Holly Ensoll being handed the unenviable task of taking on that pair.

Home advantage may help Ipswich to level out CoLA's impressive league record going into this one, but the clash is sure to provide a thrilling contest regardless.

Bristol double up

At 3-5, the start to the season has been hit and miss for Bristol. Still holding a playoff spot in seventh, the Flyers can get their record back to .500 with a pair of potential wins on offer over the next few days.

Saturday's road contest with London Cavaliers will be tough one as the Cavs have won five of their last six, and all four of their home ties this year.

Sunday's return home for a visit from 1-8 Bromsgrove is a game that Bristol will expect to win, meaning they're likely to still be in the playoff mix come the close of the weekend.

With the teams next to the Flyers in the standings, Worcester above and Brent below, both playing each other on Saturday, plus ninth-place London All Stars facing a difficult trip to 7-1 Manchester, the weekend could shape up very well for the Flyers once everything's said and done.
