WNBL D1 Recap (7/8 Mar 2026) - Regular-season champions crowned, results, stats and more

The Cavs were pushed all the way, taking the title race right to the line before London locked it up with a final-game win over Loughborough.

Just one game now remains in the regular season, Ipswich's trip to Loughborough next Sunday, but the result won't change the top eight teams as they're now locked in ahead of the playoffs.

Standout performances

The Cavaliers' equation on the final weekend was simple. Win and the title was theirs - and that's exactly what they did as they easily beat Loughborough 102-58.

The result ultimately proved academic as closest rivals CoLA slipped to a tough 61-58 loss on the road against Anglia Ruskin, giving ARU a nice momentum boost ahead of the impending post-season.

Manchester back into the playoffs carrying a lengthy losing streak, dropping from January title contenders to 11-9 finishers after a 62-49 home loss to Worcester.

Brent started the weekend with a 55-44 victory over London All Stars, Ipswich secured a 75-46 win over Brent on Sunday, alongside a bounce-back Loughborough W as they took the second leg of a double-header weekend 65-57 against London All Stars.

What does it mean for the standings? 

The playoff field is now set, with four exciting ties in the opening round that included a rematch from the past weekend:

• #1 London Cavaliers vs #8 Loughborough Riders
• #2 CoLA Southwark Pride vs Brent Bulls
• #3 Anglia Ruskin University vs Manchester Mystics
• #4 Endeavour Ipswich Basketball vs Worcester Wolves

Fans won't have long to wait, either, with the playoff scheduled to get underway on 28/29 March.

2025/26 Playoff Structure

Player-of-the-week candidates 

Chinwe Iwunze (23pts, 10reb, 5stl), Janice Monakana (26pts, 12reb, 3stl) and Matilda Goddard (20pts, 3reb, 4stl) all put up big numbers in the Cavs' title-clinching performance, and Ciani Montgomery (14pts, 14reb, 6ast, 4stl) had a big double-double to help Worcester past Manchester.

Angel Whyte (17pts, 9reb, 8ast) wasn't far off a triple-double for Ipswich, with forwards Holly Ensoll (9pts, 13reb) and Maya Price (19pts, 11reb) both playing well in support.

Louisa Gibbins missed Loughborough's Saturday loss but returned in style on Sunday with 20 points and nine boards as team mate Mallory Meyer (15pts, 9reb) also came close to a double-double.
