A key commitment of the Basketball England Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) is to publicly publish progress on a quarterly basis. 

Here is the first report of the progress made so far from January to March.

Delivery of the DIAP

There are 100 tasks to be delivered as part of the DIAP over the next four years. 25 tasks will be completed each year across all five core ambitions.

 A snapshot of progress in this quarter 

  1. The Future Youth Committee 2026 programme was officially launched in January and will be completed in December 2026. This programme is focused on developing personal and professional skills through activities such as facilitated sessions with experts, personal development plans and working at Basketball England events. The profiles of the FYC members for 2026 are now on the EDI section of the Basketball England website
  2. A Women and Girls plan has been written and will be shared with the EDI Committee and the Basketball England Board for comment
  3. Mencap delivered the Learning Disability in Sport workshop in two online sessions for BE staff.  A total of 31 (72%) of staff members attended the first session, 29 (67%) attended the second session.  An in-person session was delivered to Guardian Ballers CIC. We are currently discussing options for the London Coaches Programme

Focus for the next quarter 

  1. Meetings with Basketball Wales, Basketball Scotland and British Wheelchair Basketball to consider opportunities for collaboration 
  2. Development of the EDI Data Plan 
  3. Writing the annual review entry for EDI at Basketball England, reflections on the first year of the DIAP and objectives for 2026-2027
